Join Skagit Land Trust in celebration of Earth Day's 50th Anniversary! There will be 2 events at the Johnson Conservation Area, one of our newest properties in Marblemount! This property along the Skagit river hosts an impressive trail network through beautiful forested habitat. We will be hosting a 2 hour stewardship work party followed by a 3 hour BioBlitz. Please feel free to join us for one or both events! More information can be found below. This is an exciting opportunity for you to view this beautiful new property before its grand opening to the public! Work Party: 9:30 am - 11:30 am This is a very new property for Skagit Land Trust, and as a result there are a lot of man-made materials that need to be hauled off. Help us consolidate these materials scattered through out the property so that we can more easily have them picked up by a contractor in the near future. Removing these materials is the first step of stewarding this property for wildlife habitat! Because some of the materials we will gather are heavy and/or sharp metal objects, the work party is best suited for volunteers 13 years of age or older. BioBlitz: 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm Help us learn about our new property! A BioBlitz is a citizen science effort to identify all species within a designated area. We will document all plant, bird, insect, and mammal species in the Johnson Conservation Area using the iNaturalist app. If you have a smart phone, we encourage you to download the app and practice using it before the event. However if you do not have a smart phone or are unable to download the app you are still welcome to participate. The data collected will be used as our baseline for the Johnson Conservation Area and help Skagit Land Trust develop a stewardship plan. This is a great opportunity to learn more about local flora and fauna and to enhance your identification skills. No experience necessary! The BioBlitz is open to all ages, so feel free to bring the whole family to this fun event! Skagit Land Trust will bring all supplies. More details and RSVP form at website below.
